From April 12 to April 17, 2026, Cloudflare held its first ever Agents Week, and it used the six days to ship more than 20 products. The week was clearly planned as a statement: agents are now the primary API users on Cloudflare's platform, and the company wants to own the infrastructure layer they run on. The releases span compute, security, private networking, storage, search, browser automation, voice, domain registration, model orchestration, and feature flags — most of them in beta or GA rather than distant roadmap items.

The timing was not accidental. Four days before the keynote, on April 8, Anthropic launched Claude Managed Agents, a hosted runtime priced at "$0.08 per session-hour" that provides sandboxed execution, credential management, session checkpointing, and observability. Cloudflare's stock declined 11 percent on April 10 intraday trading as investors digested the competitive pressure. The company answered on April 16 with its own AI Platform, and the pitch was pointed: "Anthropic's runtime runs only Claude. Cloudflare's AI Platform, announced April 16, supports 70 or more models across 12 or more providers, including OpenAI and Anthropic." Cloudflare maintained its 2026 revenue guidance of 28 to 29 percent growth despite the dip.

For hosting providers, web agencies, and DevOps teams, this is a rare chance to see a full platform strategy laid out in one week. Below is the day-by-day breakdown — with every product named, every metric kept, and a short read on what matters if you are building, hosting, or defending infrastructure against agents that act more like employees than scripts.

April 12: Setting the Stage

Day one shipped no new products. Cloudflare used the opening slot to frame the week as infrastructure for "what comes next" and to note that agents are now the primary API users on its platform — more traffic, more tool calls, more long-lived sessions than human developers. Everything that followed was positioned as scaffolding for that shift.

April 13: Sandboxes GA, a Unified CLI, and AI-Generated Code with State

Sandboxes reached general availability after nine months in beta, since June 2025. They offer "persistent, isolated Linux environments with shell access, a filesystem, background processes, live preview URLs, and credential injection." The billing change is the piece operators should notice: customers are charged for active CPU cycles only, with no idle-time charges. That is a meaningful break from the "pay for the VM whether or not it is doing anything" model that still dominates the VPS market.

Sandbox Authentication is the companion security capability. API keys and OAuth tokens are "injected at the network layer and never reach the code running inside the sandbox," and operators can restrict which external services the sandbox is allowed to reach. This is the kind of control that previously required custom egress proxies or service meshes.

Durable Object Facets entered beta on the Workers Paid plan. Each instance receives an isolated database, which lets AI-generated code include persistent storage without the developer manually provisioning a D1 or external database. In other words: agents can now write stateful applications end-to-end, not just stateless handlers.

A unified CLI named cf entered technical preview via npx cf. Cloudflare has nearly 3,000 HTTP API operations in total, and the CLI is built with agent-first defaults — a full API version is already in internal testing, which suggests the human CLI is primarily a staging ground for an MCP-style interface that agents will use directly.

Local Explorer rounded out the day in open beta: a local interface for inspecting Worker bindings across KV, R2, D1, Durable Objects, and Workflows, with SQL query support. A small but welcome tool for anyone who has spent an afternoon shelling into a KV namespace from the dashboard.

April 14: Private Networking, Identity, and the MCP Problem

Cloudflare Mesh was announced as a "private networking layer that connects AI agents, human users, and multi-cloud infrastructure into a single network isolated from the public internet." Each agent receives a distinct cryptographic identity, and the mesh integrates with Workers, Workers VPC, and the Agents SDK. This is how Cloudflare intends to prevent the most obvious future failure mode: thousands of agents with overlapping API tokens calling every internal endpoint over the public internet.

Securing Non-Human Identities addressed the same concern at the token layer. Scannable tokens, enhanced OAuth visibility, and resource-scoped permissions all went generally available. The intent is simple: make it possible to revoke a single agent's access without rotating credentials for the entire fleet.

Scaling MCP Adoption published an enterprise reference architecture that layers Cloudflare Access for authentication, MCP server portals for governance, AI Gateway for cost controls, and Cloudflare Gateway for detecting unauthorized MCP servers on the corporate network. The most interesting piece embedded inside this announcement is Code Mode — a progressive tool disclosure mechanism. The numbers Cloudflare shared are striking: "in testing with four internal MCP servers exposing 52 tools, the uncompressed context consumed approximately 9,400 tokens; with Code Mode enabled, those 52 tools collapsed into 2 portal tools consuming roughly 600 tokens, a 94 percent reduction." Anyone who has tried to give an agent access to a realistic enterprise toolset knows the tool-explosion problem; this is the first credible managed answer to it.

Managed OAuth for Access entered open beta, letting AI agents authenticate with Access-protected applications through standard OAuth 2.0 flows via RFC 9728. In plain terms: agents can now log in to your internal apps the same way a human would, without you minting long-lived service tokens.

April 15: Project Think, Workflows V2, the Browser, Voice, and a Registrar API

Project Think formalised the execution model Cloudflare wants agents to target. Five tiers are defined: Tier 0 (a workspace with SQLite and R2 storage), Tier 1 (sandboxed JavaScript without network access), Tier 2 (npm package resolution), Tier 3 (headless browser), and Tier 4 (full OS access with compilers and git). The system includes durable execution with fibers, sub-agents with typed RPC, and persistent sessions via @cloudflare/think. This is the clearest statement yet of how Cloudflare thinks "agentic code" should be structured — and it looks a lot less like a Lambda and a lot more like a long-running process with checkpoints.

Workflows V2 rebuilt the control plane for Cloudflare Workflows. The migration already happened — all existing customers are on V2 with no action required. The numbers: concurrent instances went from 4,500 to 50,000, creation rate rose to 300 instances per second (up from 100), and queued instances per workflow went from 1 million to 2 million. Architecturally, the metadata layer (SousChef) is now separated from instance leasing (Gatekeeper), which is how Cloudflare plans to keep scaling without the control plane becoming the bottleneck.

Browser Run, formerly Browser Rendering, added four capabilities: Live View for real-time page state visibility, Human in the Loop for agent-to-human handoff mid-session, Session Recordings, and WebMCP support. Concurrent sessions quadrupled to 120 on both Free and Paid plans. If your agent has to click through a checkout or captcha-protected dashboard, this is the piece that moves browser automation closer to something you can actually run in production.

Voice Agents launched experimentally, supporting "real-time voice interactions over WebSocket with continuous speech-to-text and text-to-speech." The @cloudflare/voice package handles 16 kHz mono PCM transport with sentence-chunked audio streaming. Early, but it points to the same destination as OpenAI and ElevenLabs: a full voice pipeline colocated with the inference layer.

The Registrar API entered beta, letting agents search, check availability, and register domains directly through the Cloudflare API. Transfers and renewals are planned for later in 2026. A small API surface on paper, but a large conceptual shift: agents can now stand up a new brand — domain included — without a human touching the dashboard.

Agent Lee, Cloudflare's conversational assistant inside the dashboard, received write operations and Generative UI. It can now update DNS records, modify SSL/TLS settings, configure Workers routes, and enable HTTPS, with every write requiring explicit user approval. Generative UI renders inline charts and traffic visualisations from account telemetry. Available in beta for all Free plan users, which is notable — this is not locked behind Enterprise.

April 16: Storage, Search, Email, and the Multi-Model AI Platform

Artifacts entered private beta, with public beta expected in early May 2026. Described as a "Git-compatible storage service for agent-generated code and data," it supports millions of repositories, remote forking, and access from any Git client through a REST API and native Workers API. The pitch is clear: give agents a place to commit the code they generate, without needing a GitHub account per agent.

AI Search entered open beta as a "built-in search service for agents that combines keyword matching and semantic understanding in a single query." Storage and the search index are included, and you can call it from a Worker, the Agents SDK, or the Wrangler CLI. This is Cloudflare's answer to the "every agent needs a vector store" problem.

Email for Agents graduated from private to public beta. Agents can now "send and receive email natively via Workers bindings without external API keys." Email Routing handles inbound, and a new transactional sending path handles outbound. The use cases are obvious and slightly unsettling: an agent can now open a support ticket over email, send a follow-up, and parse the reply — all from inside the same Worker.

The headline release of the day was the AI Platform, pitched as a "unified inference layer connecting to 70 or more models across 12 or more providers, including OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Alibaba Cloud, Bytedance, Runway, and others." Automatic failover, buffered stream recovery, multimodal support, and custom deployment via Replicate's Cog are all included. This is the direct answer to Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents — not a better Claude runtime, but a runtime that treats Claude as one option among dozens.

April 17: Performance, Content Policy, and Feature Flags

Shared Dictionaries closed the week with one of the strongest pure-performance numbers of the event. The compression technique shares reference dictionaries between server and client to reduce file sizes. Cloudflare's test: a "272KB JavaScript bundle compressed via standard gzip to 92KB; with shared dictionary compression, the same file dropped to 2.6KB, a 97 percent reduction over the already-compressed version." Download time on a cache miss improved 81 percent versus gzip. For SPA-heavy sites, this is material.

Agent Readiness Score lets site owners check whether their website is compatible with AI agents and tracks new standards via Cloudflare Radar. Think of it as the new "Mobile Friendly" test, but for GPTBot and ClaudeBot instead of Googlebot.

Redirects for AI Training is a content policy feature that automatically converts canonical tags into HTTP 301 redirects for verified AI training crawlers on all paid Cloudflare plans. It affects only verified bots such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and Bytespider, and is meant to stop duplicate or syndicated copies of your content from being ingested in place of your canonical URL.

Flagship entered private beta as a "native feature flag service built on Workers, Durable Objects, and KV." It evaluates flags at the edge without external API calls, supports logical conditions nested up to five levels deep, and uses percentage-based rollouts via consistent hashing. LaunchDarkly is the obvious competitor; the sales angle is that Flagship runs inside the same edge network as your application, so the flag check does not add a remote round trip.

Agent Memory launched as a managed service in private beta, giving agents "persistent memory across sessions: what was discussed, what instructions were given, what tasks were completed." The service runs multiple search methods in parallel and is built on Durable Objects, Vectorize, and Workers AI. This is one of the quieter launches of the week, but probably one of the most consequential — giving every agent on the platform a default, indexed, cross-session memory layer.

What Cloudflare's Week Means for Hosting Providers

The shape of Cloudflare's bet is visible now in a way it was not before. The infrastructure is optimised for task-based agents that spin up, run for minutes or hours, and spin back down — Sandboxes with active-CPU-only billing, Workflows V2 scaling to 50,000 concurrent instances, Durable Object Facets for per-instance storage, and Code Mode to keep context windows manageable. Traditional VPS and managed-server offerings remain the better fit for persistent, always-on agents that need continuous operation and predictable IP addresses. If you sell hosting, the opportunity is not to compete with Cloudflare on task runtime — it is to own the other half of the workload.

The second structural bet is model-agnosticism. Claude Managed Agents runs only Claude; Cloudflare's AI Platform routes across 70+ models and 12+ providers. For any organisation that takes vendor lock-in seriously — regulated industries, enterprises negotiating AI budgets across multiple vendors, agencies switching models per client — this is the more defensible architecture. Expect that positioning to show up in enterprise RFPs within the next two quarters.

Finally, Agents Week made clear that Cloudflare intends to become the default identity, networking, and policy layer for non-human traffic. Mesh, Managed OAuth for Access, Non-Human Identities, the MCP reference architecture, and the Agent Readiness Score all point in the same direction. If your infrastructure already lives behind Cloudflare, the migration to agent-ready operations is mostly about turning features on. If it does not, the gap between your stack and a Cloudflare-native competitor's just widened.
